PIERCE POINT RANCH - POINT REYES NATIONAL SEASHORE

At the very northern tip of the Point Reyes Peninsula in northern California, lies Tomales Point.  To access the Point by land, you must hike the five-mile Tomales Point Trail, which bisects the sliver of land separating Tomales Bay from the Pacific Ocean. The trek is worthwhile, just for the breathtaking views it offers of the Ocean to the west and the Bay to the east. But what makes it truly special, is the Trail leads through the heart of the Point Reyes Tule Elk Preserve. If you have the good fortune to be there during rutting season (late summer to early fall), I hope you get to hear the bugling of the bulls drifting out of the fog.

The Tomales Point Trailhead is guarded by Pierce Point Ranch, established in 1858. It is one of the oldest dairy ranches in the state … and one of the most photographed ranches in the country. I add my images to the collective body of work.
